News: Demarcus Ware, NFL Free Agency, Draymond Steps Up

3/15/2017

Welcome to the Truda Report everybody. Today is a quick recap of the biggest stories from the last couple of days, along with a little snippet of my opinion on the topics.
NFL:
  • Demarcus Ware officially announced is retirement on Twitter Monday.  He is third all time in sacks per game, with .78. He is 8th all time on the sack list.  He will definitely be missed, not only by the fans but by his teammates.  Von Miller said that Demarcus was the Peyton Manning of the Broncos defense, and that he helped make Miller the man and player we know him to be.
  • The Packers signed Eddie Lacy to a 1 year $5.55 million  deal Tuesday.  The Seahawks had a huge need for a running back, and Lacy may be able to fill that void.  Lacy has had some issues with injuries and staying in shape, but I think if he can avoid those problems he could make the Seahawks offense way less one dimensional.  I wonder now though what will happen to Thomas Rawls, who showed real promise but was sidelined by injuries two straight seasons.
  • Today the Patriots signed Dont'a Hightower to a 4 year deal worth $43.5 million.  Hightower announced Tuesday night that he would give his decision on where he would go today, as he was having trouble deciding between the Jets, Steelers, and Patriots.  So far, the Pats have been the clear winners of free agency, and look like they could have one of the most dominant teams football has ever seen. Check my last post for more related to this topic.
  • Darrell Revis' charges for assault and robbery were dismissed today.  The aging legend hasn't gotten much interest on the free agent market, but now that his legal issues have been cleared up teams may be more willing to look his way.
NBA:
  • The Warriors have really struggled lately, dropping 5 of their last 8.  One of those wins though, took place last night.  It was Steph Curry's birthday, and he was able to hit a couple important 3's to help the team seal their victory.  The real story though, was Draymond Green's impressive night.  In the 106-104 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Draymond posted 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, and a career high 6 blocks.  Not only did he stuff the stat sheet, according to Steve Kerr, Green talked to the team during a timeout about playing hard and pushing themselves out of this slump, motivating his teammates into playing well for the first time in a while.  We saw Draymond take over in the Finals last year, and if the Warriors want the number one seed in the West Green may have to take on that mindset again.
NCAA:
  • March Madness is here!!!!!  The games start tomorrow, meaning it is officially upset season.  I can't wait to see who steps up, and who crumbles under the pressure.  As of right now my Final Four is Villanova, Gonzaga, Kansas, and UCLA.  I may make some changes tomorrow morning, but I don't plan on changing my winner.... Gonzaga.  They have a great defense which only allows 61.2 points per game, an incredible offense averaging 84.6 ppg, and are 6-0 against top 25 teams.  As a Butler fan I don't want to see anyone but my team win, but if I pick with my brain and not my heart, to me Gonzaga is the clear winner.
Send me your Bracket and your opinion on the upcoming madness either by emailing me at [email protected] or by following me on Instagram @thetrudareport.  Thanks for reading, and be on the lookout for another opinion column coming soon.
