News: Free Agency, Warriors' struggles

3/11/2017

Welcome to the Truda Report everybody.  Today I will be highlighting the biggest free agent signings so far, along with a little bit of NBA news.
News-NFL:
  • The Jaguars signed one of the most coveted free agents, Calais Campbell, to a 4 year $60 million contract.  He had 8 sacks with the Cardinals last year, and the only question about his production is that he turns 31 this September.
  • The Jaguars also signed A.J. Bouye, who was considered the top corner in free agency partly due to only being 25, to a 5 year $67.5 million contract.  He should pair well with Jalen Ramsey next season.
  • The Bears signed Mike Glennon to a 3 year deal worth $14.5 million each season.  Glennon, an unproven talent, is a big risk for the Bears to take with a price tag that large.
  • The Buccaneers signed Desean Jackson to a 3 year $35 million contract.  He and Mike Evans should wreak havoc on opposing defenses with Desean Jackson being the lethal deep threat we know him to be, and Mike Evans being a top 5 receiver.
  • The Rams signed Andrew Whitworth, the best tackle on the market, to a 3 year $36 million deal.  Anybody new on the Rams offensive line is an upgrade, which can hopefully lead to more success for Todd Gurley.
  • The Cardinals gave Chandler Jones a 5 year $83 million extension.  Jones was given the franchise tag about a week ago to ensure he wouldn't hit the free agent market.
  • The Bears cut Jay Cutler.  For anyone who lives in the Chicago area, the parade will take place on Central Avenue on March 13.
  • Kevin Zeitler signed with the Browns for 5 years $60 million.  He is now the highest paid guard in the NFL.
  • The Browns acquired Brock Osweiler and a 2018 2nd round and 2018 6th round pick for a 2017 2nd round selection.  The Browns have no intention to keep Osweiler, and they are shopping the QB for a 3rd round pick.
  • The Eagles signed Alshon Jeffery to a 1 year $14 million deal.  He will be a huge upgrade for Carson Wentz, who showed promise last year despite having little to no receiving weapons.
  • Terrelle Pryor signed a 1 year $8 million deal with the Redskins.  This deal, just like Alshon Jeffery's, is a "prove you are worth the money" contract, which could lead to a future long term deal.
  • The Patriots acquired Brandin Cooks and a 4th round pick for a 1st and 3rd round pick in this years draft.  Cooks is one of the best deep threats in the league, as he posted 1,173 yards and 8 touchdowns last year.
NBA:
  • On Thursday the Celtics beat the Warriors 99-86, part of the Warriors stretch of poor play lately.  The Warriors have lost 4 of their last 6, something they haven't done in 3 years.
  • The Spurs also won their 50th game of the season Thursday, in a 28 point comeback victory over the Kings.  Kawhi Leonard and Demarcus Aldridge were both resting.
